JAZZ FORUM - THE EUROPEAN JAZZ MAGAZINE 10-11/2016
"This album should become the property of all fans of swing, jazz standards and classical big band sounds. All is done brilliantly with great instrumantal solos. On top of all we have a wonderful vocal interpretations of Krystyna Durys, jazz singer endowed with interesting and pleasant voice rich in overtones. She sings with energy and knowledge of stylistic considerations. Flawlessly and competently. Among the recorded songs, arranged in a reference to the styles of the 30s and today's follow-ups always made professionally, we find very popular songs but also less known. Actually there are no crank outs or attempts of significant modification of a tradition. It is a well-presented jazz with real emotions that you listen with joy and satisfaction. "- Piotr Kałużny (top polish jazz pianist, composer, arranger, lecturer at the Academy of Music in Wrocław at the Faculty Of Jazz).
It's hard to believe it's a debut. Such mature interpretations and freedom of performance is impossible to find in todays Polish jazz market. Krystyna Durys surprised us with this album. She managed to capture this unique climate of recordings of great jazz singers - Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday and the mood of the swing era. She sings standards with the respect of traditional interpretations but shares quite modern emotions with listeners. The age of the swing has left unparalleled amounts of beautiful compositions used today by musicians as a source of inspiration. In the case of Krystyna Durys it's a creative inspiration which gives these songs a new face. There is also a great contribution of accompanying instrumentalists. Outstanding sound of her band and invited stars are half the success of this album and it should be emphasized clearly that there is no division into vocalists and musicians. We are witnessing full cooperation, mutual understanding and sensational interpretation of standards. It turns out that classical jazz is still alive, colorful and delightful. I am fortelling a well-deserved success to this album. Such unique music can not remain unnoticed.- Michał Padkowski (music critic, reviewer, host of Pro-Jazz show in Pro-Radio).
"Krystyna Durys knows how to make a real tribute. Aware of the risks associated with taking on the shoulders her debut issued in this unique convention she coped with it perfectly. Reason one: voice. Distinctive and intriguing. There are no two tracks in which it would sound the same. Thoughtful but not contrived interpretations perfectly capture the essence of each of the standards. Lightness and grace (I Got Rhythm), aggressiveness full of humor and character (I'd Rather Be Burned As A Witch) and sweet, but not too naive sentimentality (Never Let Me Go) are some of the views with which Durys treats us on the album. The opening song Caravan presents genuine jazz brass section well tuned and enchanting with its intensive but well-balanced sound. Our Love Is Here To Stay is a song in which Nahorny solos interlacing with a string quartet conversate and complete the main vocal line. I Want To Be Evil stylized in latino jazz is the best proof of how diverse the sound of Krystyna Durys band can be. The band - colorful like Krystyna - is bursting with creativity. I encourage anyone who appreciates original vocal, a fresh look at familiar songs and the unique atmosphere of timeless standards to become the owner of "Krystyna Durys - Tribute To Ladies Of Jazz". Well done Mrs. Durys! "-Marta Szostak (Graduate of Cultural Studies and a student of Musicology in UAM in Poznań).

"She sings brilliantly, professionally, with energy, lightness and wonderful interpretation. She doesn't try to change standards unnecessarly. She focuses on the tradition what provids listeners with real emotions and joy. The vocals are interspersed with wonderful instrumental solos. (...) It all makes listeners move into 30s. The whole band has done a great work. "- Magdalena Kurek (graduate of journalism and communication at the University of Gdansk).
